Southern Charm

Brought to you by:

Description

The South comes alive in the charming coastal town of Charleston, with its many historic dark green buildings. Palm-lined streets lead to historic churches and residences, some dating back to the 17th Century. The city of Charleston has survived everything from hurricanes to a devastating earthquake, to the ravages of the Civil War. During reconstruction, the only color of paint that was in abundance was black paint, so the residents put a small drop of yellow pigment in the paint, thus creating the famous dark green that is in abundance in Charleston.

Explore on foot, or try a trolley or horse-drawn carriage tour down the cobblestone streets. Relive Civil War history with an optional boat trip to Fort Sumter. Magnificent plantations and gardens are nearby including the Boone Hall Plantation. The massive Live Oaks draped with Spanish Moss accentuate the charm and hospitality of this inviting Southern destination.
